Cathar Country This is a region of contrasts. Wild, windswept garrigue, where cigales sing and buzzards circle lazily against a blue sky, and acres of sandy beaches for swimming, windsurfing, or just lazing in the sun. This page is just a taster of some of the magnificent scenery and places of interest on the doorstep of Domain des Pins. Peyrepertuse The château at Peyrepertuse is the dominating feature of this terroir -- if you only visit one château in the Corbières, make it this one. Once you know where to look, it is visible for miles around (the best view is from Rouffiac), but it is grafted so closely to the rock on which it stands that it seems to blend into the mountain itself. Queribus
Looking to the east from Peyrepertuse, you will see the château of Quéribus perched on its crag. It is still probably the best preserved of the border castles, and the most inaccessible. The climb is longer and steeper than at Peyrepertuse, but once again you are rewarded by the view.
....and then of course there is always Carcassonne
Other Cathar ruins can be found at.... Coustaussa, Puilaurens, Montségur, Queribus, Termes and Aguilar
